Free Walk Oaxaca was created to help travelers experience the city beyond monuments, dates and tourist checklists.
We walk these streets, eat in these markets, know the neighborhoods and share the stories that make Oaxaca feel alive.
Free Walk Oaxaca started with a simple idea:
Travelers shouldn’t have to experience Oaxaca from the outside.
Since 2014, we’ve been connecting visitors with the city through local stories, culture, traditions, food, neighborhoods and everyday life.
What began as a Free Walking Tour has grown into a way of experiencing Oaxaca through different perspectives — walking, eating, tasting mezcal, meeting artisans and discovering places you might never find on your own.
The walk begins.
The walk begins.
Our guides aren’t reading from a script.
They’re locals who love Oaxaca, enjoy meeting people and know how to connect the city’s past with what’s happening around you today, ask them where to eat, ask about mezcal, ask where locals actually go, ask the question that isn’t in your guidebook.
That’s the point.
Explore local markets,
taste seasonal flavors and
meet the locals.

We believe the best way to understand Oaxaca is through people who live here.
We’d rather show you a real neighborhood than manufacture a picture-perfect tourist moment.
Questions make tours better.
Every group is different, and every walk should feel that way.
Oaxaca is home before it is a destination.
We encourage respectful travel and support the people, businesses and communities that keep its culture alive.
Our recommendations are the places we genuinely want friends to experience.
The Free Walking Tour is where our story started. But Oaxaca has too many sides to fit into one walk.
Today, our experiences can take you deeper into local food, mezcal, traditional craftsmanship and personalized city exploration.
If you’ve walked through Oaxaca’s Historic Center, you may have already seen it.
The yellow umbrella helps travelers find their guide in the middle of a busy city — but over the years it has become something more.
It’s where conversations start, groups meet and new Oaxaca stories begin.
The places we visit are not attractions created for tourists.
They are neighborhoods, markets, workshops, businesses and communities where people live and work every day.
We encourage travelers to explore with curiosity, respect local spaces and support the people who keep Oaxaca’s traditions alive.
